What to expect from us? How does it all work?

We absolutely love what we do. There is a lot of preparation and the days are long. But the excitement and satisfaction of setting up and delivering a great show for our wedding clients, watching the happiness on the faces of our bride & groom, is an immense reward for us.

With over 500 weddings behind us we have the track record to ensure that your wedding band experience is one of the best available.

Planning for your Big Day

After booking us, how does it all work? There are two main things we’ll be working on before your wedding day to ensure everything goes smoothly for you and us, and expectations are managed all round.

Your Personalised Playlist

As part of our service we offer to tailor our live playlist for you. We have an immense repertoire that we have tried and tested over a 15 years period. After booking we will invite you to choose your favourite songs from our repertoire and input any genre preferences. So you can pick your favs and avoid any you'd rather not hear. We will always craft the set to make sure it works but use your input as a starting point and reference throughout the process. It is worth mixing genres and decades to keep things interesting and to appeal to the typically broad demographic at a family event like a wedding. We know which songs work well together and certainly a big part of the magic of having a great live band perform for you are the creative segues that seamlessly link songs in the set, as a good DJ would do. But it will be live, organic and you will feel the excitement and thrill on the dance floor.

Project Plan (Check-in)

This is also a much underrated aspect of booking a good band. There are countless things in live events that could present challenges to each element of the event schedule going successfully. And problems in one part of the schedule can spill into subsequent segments of the schedule, so it’s in our interest to carry out a ‘check-in’ with you and your venue to ensure we are on the same page as much as possible.

We have a lot on our side to prepare and organise, we need to fit in with your other plans for the day. So will be in touch to establish a plan of action including timings. You may have this detail early on, so it maybe just a case of inputting our experience and tweaking if/ where necessary. Alternatively, you may wish to have more input from us to shape things at an earlier stage in your planning, which we would almost always recommend to ensure your expectations are managed early on in case you’re expecting something that we can not in fact deliver, like a setup time that is not physically possible.

We always aim to be as flexible as possible, but we won’t promise things that we can not deliver. Again the key is managing expectations so that you can have a clear understanding of what we will be bringing to the party, how we will fit in with everything else, and you can then enjoy complete peace of my in the run up to your wedding.

Timings vary from wedding to wedding depending on many variables including the planned ceremony, drinks reception & speech timings, but here’s an example:

  • 17:15 - Band load-in/setup

  • 19:15 - Disco/DJ set (Pre-live band music – early evening music setting the scene)

  • 20:30 - 21:30 - First Dance & Set 1

  • 21:30 - 22:15 - Disco/DJ set

  • 22:15 - 23:15 - Band Set 2

  • 23:15 - midnight - Outro Disco/DJ set

We can discuss the variables that could influence the final timings but the above is a good starting point for discussion.

In addition to consulting with you regarding timings and other aspects for us delivering our show, we like to communicate with your venue contact so that we can cover some additional logistics consideration including access and sound restrictions, if we haven’t covered these prior to booking.

Venue’s may require certain documentation from us, typically public liability insurance (PLI) and portable appliance testing (PAT) documents (proof that our kit has been checked to ensure they are safe to use). And occasionally we get asked for health & safety documentation.

Your venue may have certain restrictions on volume and setup, so we will need to fully understand these so we can be prepared appropriately for the day.

On The Day

We always aim to arrive in good time. Arriving early can overcome unforeseen circumstances including bad traffic and issues with access or setup. Time is our friend if we allow for it. We typically add 50% to our estimated journey time based on the AA route planner or other navigation systems.

We will load-in and setup as discreetly as we can, typically liaising with the venue on arrival. If there are speeches going on anywhere near where we are setting up we will make ourselves scarce unless we can be certain we won’t be disruptive in anyway. We use a number of best practices to ensure our sound & lighting is setup so it looks great, that the sound will be optimal and all the equipment is safe for us and your guests. Our attention to detail reflects learning our craft over 15 years of delivering wedding shows.

We will sound check as soon as we have setup and are able to; often this means liaising with you or venue or both, to check we can get going. The sound check is a great atmosphere builder for the coming show if you guests are in the vicinity, so it’s nothing to worry about; alternatively your guests may be in a different space whilst we sound check. The acoustics of every room is different so it’s very important to do a proper sound check to ensure best results for you. We set the volume at an appropriate level for the room size & acoustic characteristics along with audience size.

Once we have changed in to our stage outfits and hopefully eaten something, our band leader will liaise with you regarding kicking off the show and your first dance. Then there is only one thing left to do… let’s get this party started!
